The National Environmental Standards and Regulation Enactment Agency (NESREA), is an  agency of the Ministry of Environment Housing and Urban Development which is charged with the responsibility of enforcing environmental laws , regulations and standards  and deterring people , industries and organization from polluting and degrading the environment.
The NESREA Act was signed into law by president Umaru Musa Yar,Adua GCFR and  this  has been published in the Federal  republic of  Nigeria Official Gazette No 92 vol 94 of 31st July , 2007

The duties of this act is like that of FEPA , NESREA has responsibility for the protection and development of the protection of the environment , biodiversity conservation and sustainable development of the Nigeria's natural resources in general and environmental technology. THIS Act works for the regulation of oil spilage but does not cover the oil and Gas Industry.
The applicable body for oil and gas is DPR which has the power on petroleum industry .
FOCUS OF NESREA:
1. To protect the environment.
2. TO ENFORCE LAWS AND REGULATIONS ON THE ENVIRONMENT
3.  To Maintain environmental awareness.
4. To engage in relevant partnership that will promote protection of the environment.
